About the role#
The Department of American Studies is looking for a student to assist with marketing and administrative tasks for the 2026-2027 academic year. You will report to the Department Manager and participate in a structured internship experience through the Internship Placement Program. This includes completing an asynchronous co-curricular workshop series via Canvas. This position is open to undergraduate students, ideally in their second to fourth years.
What you'll do#
- Manage the department bulletin board to keep information current.
- Review and update the American Studies website content.
- Market departmental events by creating and distributing digital and physical flyers.
- Draft and revise the American Studies newsletter.
- Assist in planning and executing department events, such as the end-of-year celebration.
- Handle office administrative tasks, including managing office supplies.
- Participate in the required asynchronous co-curricular workshop series.
What you'll need#
- Federal Work-Study eligibility and current status as a UVA undergraduate student.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.
- Proficiency or a willingness to learn Canva, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and OneDrive.
- Comfort with image production and editing for web use.
- Strong written communication and problem-solving skills.
- An interest in digital and print marketing, web operations, and supporting the student experience.
- Previous experience generating written content for public audiences is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid position. While some tasks can be done remotely, you must be available for physical tasks at Wilson Hall.
- The role runs from September or October 2026 through May 2027.
- You will work between 1 and 10 hours per week.
- Compensation is $18 per hour.
