About the role#
The University of Virginia Department of Recreation is hiring a Facility Operations Assistant to support outdoor facility operations. This role serves as a primary point of contact for students, staff, and guests. You will help maintain a welcoming environment while ensuring safety and policy enforcement across indoor and outdoor recreational spaces.
What you'll do#
- Welcome guests and provide information about UVA Rec programs and services.
- Manage reception desk duties, including equipment rentals, locker processing, and membership assistance.
- Monitor facility access and maintain a professional, clean environment.
- Assist supervisors with opening and closing procedures for outdoor facilities, including tennis courts, fields, and basketball courts.
- Perform regular cleaning of fitness equipment.
- Act as a safety lead by following emergency protocols and enforcing university policies.
- Support event preparations and facility maintenance tasks.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current UVA student.
- Ability to work 6 to 12 hours per week.
- Availability for opening and closing shifts, including weekends, Friday nights, and academic breaks.
- Completion of required department training.
- Attendance at scheduled staff meetings and in-service sessions.
- A proactive approach to customer service and decision making.
