    About the role#

    The University of Virginia is hiring a Conservation Stewardship Project Assistant to support the Virginia Department of Forestry Office of Working Lands Preservation. This role involves managing an easement portfolio that includes over 230 properties and 100,000 acres. You will gain experience in state government operations while supporting the conservation of farms and forests across the Commonwealth.

    What you'll do#

    • Manage daily property records and process landowner requests.
    • Assist with field monitoring and stewardship tasks.
    • Perform specialized office support functions and data entry.
    • Provide customer service and share information with the team.
    • Compile and submit detailed reports on stewardship activities.

    What you'll need#

    • Federal Work Study eligibility.
    • A strong interest in natural resources conservation and land management.
    • Proficiency in reading and comprehending legal documentation.
    • Knowledge of Best Management Practices for forestry and agriculture.
    • A solid understanding of open-space easements.
    • Experience with ArcGIS Pro or similar GIS software is highly desirable.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate clearly in writing and speech.

    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Summer 2026 through Fall 2026.
    • Compensation: Paid position at $18 per hour.
