About the role#
Professor SoRelle W. Gaynor at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy is hiring a research assistant for a project focused on congressional activity and campaign finance. This role involves archival work, dataset construction, and data collection. You will receive training on relevant research methods and data sources. This position is part of the Internship Placement Program (IPP), requiring enrollment in a one-credit course or participation in an asynchronous workshop series.
What you'll do#
- Collect campaign finance information using databases like FEC.gov and OpenSecrets.org.
- Organize data through file management and Excel.
- Conduct literature reviews within political science research.
What you'll need#
- You must be a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at UVA.
- Strong organizational and time management skills are required.
- An interest in congressional politics and campaign finance is essential.
- Previous experience with Excel and file management is helpful but not required.
- This position is best suited for students in their 2nd through 4th years.

- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Term: Fall 2026, with the possibility of renewal for Spring 2027.
- Compensation: $20 per hour.
- Schedule: 10 to 20 hours per week.
