About the role#
The University of Virginia is hiring Audio-Visual Assistants to support events and spaces managed by the Division of Student Affairs. You will provide technical assistance for microphones, sound systems, projectors, and video conferencing equipment. This role involves direct collaboration with professional staff to ensure technology runs smoothly for various campus activities.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and respond to radio calls, service tickets, emails, and phone requests for technical support.
- Set up, operate, and break down equipment for events in Newcomb Hall, the 1515 Building, and other satellite spaces.
- Meet with event organizers to confirm their technology needs are met.
- Provide movie projection and sound services for the Newcomb Theater and outdoor locations.
- Identify and report equipment issues to professional staff via Microsoft Teams.
- Conduct weekly site visits to verify equipment is operational.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and complete required training for AV resources.
- Cover shifts as needed and maintain responsibility for your assigned schedule.
What you'll need#
- You must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in at least 12 credits.
- You must remain in good academic and disciplinary standing.
- Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and act as a reliable team member.
- Previous AV or IT experience is a plus, as is holding a U.S. driver's license.
Location & details#
- Location: Charlottesville, VA (On-site).
- Employment type: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week.
- Schedule: Shifts are available Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
- Duration: This is a rolling position for the 2026-2027 academic year, ending May 8, 2027.
