Testing Specialist – Student Disability Services - UTK

About the role#

The Testing Specialist performs administrative and proctoring duties to support the daily operations of the Student Disability Services (SDS) Testing Center. This role reports to the Testing Coordinator and serves as a primary point of contact for faculty, students, and staff regarding exam administration and testing accommodations.

What you'll do#

• Administer and oversee exams according to prescribed standards and monitor examinee conduct.
• Manage testing appointments, schedules, and customer service inquiries.
• Organize, prepare, and verify the accuracy of test materials.
• Convert instructional and exam materials into accessible formats and troubleshoot assistive technology.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise test center proctors and couriers.
• Maintain supplies and equipment necessary for center operations.
• Facilitate ongoing training for staff regarding testing procedures and assistive technology.

What you'll need#

• High school diploma or GED (a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for required experience).
• Two years of relevant work experience.
• Proficient computer skills and knowledge of document conversion software.
• Ability to manage people and priorities effectively in a professional environment.
• Understanding of confidentiality requirements, including FERPA, and relevant civil rights laws such as the ADA and the Rehabilitation Act.
• Strong communication skills to interact professionally with diverse constituents.

Location & details#

• Location: Knoxville, Tennessee (On-site).
• Schedule: Requires one or two evening shifts per week and occasional weekend work, with extended hours and potential overtime during final exam periods.
• Sponsorship: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship.
