The Veterinary Clinical Access Assistant provides direct accommodation services for a veterinary medicine student with a disability. This role facilitates equal access to veterinary education and clinical training by performing specific tasks under the student's direction within clinical settings. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Knoxville, Tennessee.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate the student's access to patient care environments and clinical experiences.
- Assist with patient handling, positioning, and maneuvering as directed by the student.
- Transcribe and format clinical notes as dictated by the student.
- Assist with documentation-related tasks in clinical record systems as dictated by the student.
- Attend assigned clinical rotations and patient care activities with the student.
- Support physical tasks such as moving equipment and transporting supplies needed for clinical activities.
- Coordinate schedules and communicate with Student Disability Services staff, clinical faculty, and the student.
- Adhere to all clinical, safety, infection control, and professional standards of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience working with large animals (e.g., horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, llamas, and alpacas).
- Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures.
- Skill in safely handling and assisting with the restraint of a variety of animal species.
- Ability to work in fast-paced clinical environments involving animals and veterinary students.
- Ability to follow precise instructions without exercising independent clinical judgment.
- Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional discretion.

- Location: Knoxville, TN.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: May include evening and weekend work.
- Employment Type: Full-time, temporary.
- Compensation: $16.00 per hour (not eligible for benefits).
