The Academic Advisor I provides comprehensive support to undergraduate students, helping them navigate institutional policies, degree requirements, and campus resources. This role is responsible for managing a caseload of 250–280 students, ensuring they receive the guidance necessary for timely progression and graduation.
What you'll do#
- Manage a caseload of approximately 250–280 undergraduate students, providing accurate and developmentally appropriate advising.
- Develop, maintain, and update individualized academic plans that align with student career and academic goals.
- Assist students with course selection, registration, and understanding degree requirements.
- Monitor student academic progress and provide timely interventions, including guidance on probation, suspension, and GPA improvement strategies.
- Maintain detailed records and utilize case management systems for student tracking.
- Refer students to appropriate campus partners, such as Financial Aid, Career Services, and Veterans Affairs, based on individual needs.
- Participate in New Student Orientation, academic fairs, and group advising sessions, including occasional evening or weekend events.
- Collaborate with academic departments and leadership to identify and address barriers to student success.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in a secondary or higher education setting working with students’ academic needs, such as advising or student services coordination.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer software and the ability to learn new systems.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students and faculty.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail and an understanding of federal and university guidelines.

- Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- Modality: This is a full-time, fully on-site position.
- Compensation: The anticipated hiring salary is $47,250 (Market Range MR07).
