About the role#
The Institute for Social Research at Sacramento State is hiring 25 assistants for the Young Adult Tobacco Purchase Survey Project. This project assesses tobacco sales to individuals under 21 across California. You will work as a secret shopper, attempting to purchase tobacco products at retail locations while a research partner records the results. This is a part-time, temporary position that offers a flexible schedule to accommodate school commitments.
What you'll do#
- Travel by car or plane to reach retail locations throughout California.
- Attempt to purchase traditional or electronic tobacco products at predetermined sites.
- Communicate your field observations to your research partner.
- Attend debrief meetings immediately after each trip.
- Keep accurate records of your travel expenses, purchase logs, and hours worked.
What you'll need#
- You must be 18 to 19 years of age.
- Availability for periodic travel on weekends and over school breaks.
- Ability to travel as a passenger in a rental car or plane.
- Reliability for all scheduled travel.
- Ability to follow study protocols as directed by your supervisor or research partner.
