About the role#
United Veterinary Care hosts veterinary students for clinical externships at the Solano-Napa Pet Emergency Clinic in Fairfield, California. This program allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world emergency hospital setting. The clinic provides services including ultrasound, endoscopy, and soft tissue surgery for dogs and cats. Stipends are available to offset travel and lodging costs, unless prohibited by the student's veterinary school.
What you'll do#
- Participate in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, sick patient workups, and routine medical appointments.
- Engage in case discussions and collaborative problem-solving under the supervision of experienced veterinarians and support staff.
- Discuss cases with your supervising veterinarian to confirm exam findings and treatment plans before proceeding.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
- Priority is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit.
- Must provide proof of professional liability insurance.
