Veterinary Student Externship

About the role#

This externship provides clinical-year veterinary students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world hospital setting. Based at Standiford Veterinary Center, students gain hands-on experience in a hybrid general practice and emergency environment. You will be supervised by experienced veterinarians and support staff as you develop your clinical skills and prepare for practice.

What you'll do#

• Participate in case discussions and collaborative problem-solving.
• Perform hands-on patient care in general practice, emergency, and specialty settings.
• Assist in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergency care, and routine medical appointments.
• Discuss cases with supervising veterinarians to verify exam findings and treatment plans.

What you'll need#

• Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
• Priority is given to students in their clinical years (typically 3rd or 4th year) completing official externship blocks for school credit.
• Must provide proof of professional liability insurance.
