About the role#
United Veterinary Care hosts veterinary students for clinical externships at Helping Hands Veterinary Surgery & Dentistry of Florida. This program allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world hospital setting. The practice focuses on high-quality soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, and dental procedures, providing mentorship to students looking to increase their comfort and confidence in these areas.
What you'll do#
- Actively participate in cases to further your development toward becoming a veterinarian.
- Work under the supervision of experienced veterinarians and skilled support staff.
- Assist with surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, sick patient workups, and routine medical appointments.
- Discuss cases with your supervising veterinarian to confirm exam findings and treatment plans.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
- Priority is given to students in their clinical years (typically 3rd or 4th year) on official externship blocks for school credit.
- Must provide proof of professional liability insurance.
