About the role#
Gailor Animal Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, offers clinical externships for veterinary students seeking hands-on experience in a full-service general practice. This program provides exposure to a wide range of species, including dogs, cats, pocket pets, reptiles, birds, and potbellied pigs. Externs work alongside a collaborative team with interests in ultrasound, acupuncture, and endocrine conditions.
What you'll do#
- Actively participate in clinical cases to support your professional development.
- Assist with surgical cases, dental procedures, and emergency care.
- Manage sick patient workups and routine medical appointments.
- Discuss cases with supervising veterinarians to review exam findings and treatment plans before proceeding.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
- Priority is given to students in their clinical years completing official externship blocks for school credit.
- Must provide proof of professional liability insurance.
