About the role#
This position supports the CIRRUS platform team within the Computational and Information Systems Laboratory. CIRRUS is a cloud native, Kubernetes based scientific computing platform that spans multiple bare-metal clusters. You will work alongside experienced staff to deploy, operate, and maintain this environment. Your initial focus will involve verifying workflows and improving documentation quality, with opportunities to grow into broader platform operations over time.
What you'll do#
- Test and verify platform workflows, new functionality, and supporting documentation before release.
- Act as an end-user to confirm documentation is accurate, complete, and easy to use.
- Provide written feedback and recommendations for technical improvements.
- Validate that documented procedures produce expected results on the Kubernetes-based CIRRUS environment.
- Develop and maintain reusable workflows to validate new workloads onboarded to the platform.
- Modify and run existing workflows, scripts, and manifests.
- Document workflows for team members and platform users.
- Author and edit user-facing guides and onboarding materials.
- Compose technical reports, walkthroughs, or presentations regarding platform functionality.
- Develop a working knowledge of Earth system science workloads.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment or intent to enroll in an accredited secondary or post-secondary school, college, university, or trade school.
- Basic familiarity with Linux and containers, such as Docker or Podman.
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with an aptitude for clear technical writing.
- Ability to follow moderately complex procedures and practices.
- Experience with a scripting language like Python or Bash is desired.
- Familiarity with Git, version control, or scientific computing environments is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a part-time, paid position.
- The role is based in Boulder, Colorado.
- This position operates on a hybrid schedule, with an expectation to work on-site approximately 3 days per week.
- All work must be performed within the United States.
