About the role#
This internship provides practical experience within the Applications and Services Department at the Laser Application Center in Plymouth. You will support laser application engineers with feasibility studies, customer projects, and daily operations. The role involves working with industrial laser equipment and contributing to development activities.
What you'll do#
- Operate TruLaser Cell, TruLaser Station, TruDisk, and TruFiber equipment to process sample parts.
- Perform post-processing of samples and coordinate with third parties as needed.
- Assist engineers with laser cutting and welding tasks.
- Use metallurgy equipment, including microscopes and cross-section tools.
- Prepare for customer visits and participate in team meetings.
- Conduct experiments related to laser processing.
- Use TRUMPF software such as VisionLine Detect.
- Maintain the condition of the Laser Application Center.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 4-year degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or Industrial Engineering. Junior or Senior status is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Analytical thinking skills and the ability to work in a structured manner.
- Previous experience with lasers, manufacturing processes, metallurgy, or materials science is a plus.
- CAD experience is beneficial.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Modality: On-site.
- Duration: Winter 2027 to Summer 2027.
- Commitment: At least 24 hours per week.
