About the role#
Trane Technologies is hiring a Controls Algorithm Engineering Intern to join our team in La Crosse, Wisconsin. This is a full-time, paid, rolling internship. You will work in a hybrid environment, with onsite expectations Monday through Thursday and the flexibility to choose your work location on Fridays.
What you'll do#
- Design and analyze control algorithms using a foundation in HVAC, thermodynamics, and system dynamics.
- Develop mathematical models and prototypes using programming languages like Python, C++, or MATLAB.
- Validate and benchmark algorithm performance against real-world datasets using scientific computing libraries and AI integration.
- Manage software development tasks including version control with Git, code reviews, and documentation.
- Collaborate with team members to solve complex analytical problems and optimize system performance.
- Prioritize simulation, prototyping, and testing phases to ensure project goals are met efficiently.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Proficiency in programming for numerical analysis and simulation.
- Experience with scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, or Pandas.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, such as serving as a Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, or leading academic projects.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
