About the role#
This paid internship offers students a chance to work with electrical and control systems at a wastewater treatment facility. You will support skilled technicians with daily tasks, gaining hands-on experience in troubleshooting, calibration, and system monitoring. The role runs for 100 hours, scheduled for two days per week between September 21 and November 13, 2026. This position is open only to students enrolled in a Charter School in the High Desert.
What you'll do#
- Assist with basic electrical troubleshooting in motors, pumps, and control panels.
- Perform safety checks on wiring and electrical components.
- Support the calibration of flow meters, pH sensors, and pressure transducers.
- Observe SCADA and PLC systems to learn about monitoring and automation.
- Update wiring diagrams, SOPs, and equipment documentation.
- Help with preventative maintenance, including cleaning and visual inspections.
- Manage and organize tools used for electrical and instrumentation tasks.
- Log instrument readings and operational data.
- Participate in special projects like instrument installations or system upgrades.
What you'll need#
- A strong interest in electronics, control systems, or environmental utilities.
- You must be safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions.
- Comfort working in both indoor and outdoor technical and industrial environments.
- Ability to obtain a work permit.
- You must be at least 16 years old and possess valid Right to Work documents.
