About the role#
This internship offers community college students a broad look at how a public agency operates. You will work alongside staff and leadership in areas such as human resources, compliance, safety, marketing, and board administration. This role focuses on hands-on learning, professional development, and contributing to the daily operations of a public utility.
What you'll do#
- Handle daily administrative tasks, including document preparation, scheduling, and correspondence.
- Maintain electronic and physical files, records, and operational documentation.
- Support data entry, report preparation, and information tracking.
- Organize employee onboarding materials, training records, and HR documentation.
- Assist with the coordination of training, professional development, and internal communications.
- Help track employee training requirements, certifications, and safety activities.
- Review and format internal policies, procedures, and operational documents.
- Prepare internal communications, flyers, newsletters, and social media materials.
- Assist with materials for Board of Directors meetings and attend meetings to observe public agency governance.
- Work with the leadership team to gain insight into organizational planning and strategic decision-making.
- Conduct research and track project milestones for various departmental initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a community college program, preferably in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, Human Resources, or Communications.
- Strong organizational, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to handle sensitive information professionally and maintain confidentiality.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Interest in learning about public agency operations and working across different departments.
