About the role#
The Product Designer Co-op works with our mechanical and mechatronic engineering teams. You will focus on cost optimization, product development, and design enhancement for our machinery. This is a full-time, paid, on-site role for 3rd and 4th-year students.
What you'll do#
- Brainstorm and develop initial design concepts and product improvements for new and existing products.
- Create and update 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Select materials based on cost, manufacturing processes, and mechanical properties.
- Perform tests, hand calculations, and structural FEA studies.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications and bills of materials.
- Participate in hands-on troubleshooting during the fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality control teams to integrate designs into production.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Understanding of machine design fundamentals, mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
- Knowledge of structural FEA and dynamic simulation of machine components.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work within cross-functional teams.
- Mandatory submission of a cover letter, resume, and current transcript.
Location & details#
- Locations: Paris, Brant, Brantford, Cambridge, and Kitchener, Ontario.
- Work Modality: This is an on-site position. No remote or hybrid options are available.
- Transportation: The Paris location is not accessible by public transportation. Personal transportation is required for Paris and recommended for other sites to travel between plants and test sites.
- Compensation: Wages range from $26 to $29 per hour, based on your year of study. You will receive 6% vacation pay and a 30% discount at the Tigercat Outfitter's Store.
