The Science Communication & Social Media Intern will help translate hands-on STEM experiences into engaging digital content. This role provides an opportunity to apply storytelling, digital media, and communication skills within a museum and non-profit educational setting. You will work alongside marketing and education professionals to develop strategy, produce video content, and manage audience engagement.
What you'll do#
- Produce content that aligns with organizational brand standards and audience engagement goals.
- Create and edit 3–5 short-form videos per week for TikTok.
- Translate STEM concepts into accessible, engaging, and audience-friendly content.
- Capture footage of exhibits, engineering challenges, and museum programs.
- Collaborate with educators and subject matter experts to ensure educational accuracy.
- Analyze content performance metrics to share insights and recommendations.
- Support community management by interacting with audiences to foster engagement.
- Monitor social media trends and emerging content formats to inform strategy.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate status in Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, Journalism, Digital Media, Film, Education, or a STEM-related field.
- Strong interest in social media, digital storytelling, and content creation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Curiosity about science, technology, engineering, design, or informal learning.
- Experience with video editing software and platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: San Jose, California.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 16 – December 4, 2026).
- Modality: On-site, with occasional evening or weekend work required.
- Commitment: 15–20 hours per week.
- Physical requirements: Ability to frequently move objects up to 50 pounds.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
