UX Design Intern

About the role#

As a UX Design Intern at The Philadelphia Inquirer, you will contribute to real projects that shape how readers engage with digital content. You will work alongside design, research, and engineering teams to conduct research, build prototypes, and deliver designs. This is a 9-week, full-time, paid internship running from June through August 2026.

What you'll do#

• Develop an understanding of user needs to help shape interactions with new features.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, journalists, and UX designers to bring projects to life.
• Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
• Support user research efforts, including interviews, usability testing, and comparative analysis, and translate insights into design solutions.
• Present findings to key stakeholders to inform design-based decision-making.
• Apply and maintain brand and design system standards to ensure platform consistency.
• Contribute to the evolution of design systems and asset libraries.
• Follow accessibility best practices to ensure inclusive products.
• Participate in design reviews and complete a final capstone project.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment at an accredited college or university as a rising junior, senior, or graduate student.
• Academic focus in User Experience Design, Graphic Design, Communications, Human Resources, or a related field, or completion of a UX/UI Boot Camp certification.
• Working proficiency in Figma, including auto-layout, components, design systems, and prototyping.
• Basic understanding of UX principles, usability heuristics, and user-centered design methods.
• Strong visual design skills covering typography, layout, and interaction patterns.
• Detail-oriented approach with strong problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with AI tools for design and an interest in user research.
• A desire to support the mission of local journalism.
