Business Reporter Intern

About the role#

The Philadelphia Inquirer is seeking a Business Reporter Intern to cover the evolving economy of the Philadelphia region. This role focuses on how business trends impact everyday life. This is a 9-week, paid, full-time internship running from June through August 2026.

What you'll do#

• Report on breaking news across a range of business topics, collaborating with reporters and editors across the newsroom.
• Identify and develop follow-up stories to deepen and advance initial coverage.
• Monitor social media and other platforms to track local conversations and integrate them into reporting.
• Aggregate relevant regional news stories, focusing on advancing the narrative and adding value.
• Use social media as a reporting tool and a platform for audience engagement.
• Complete a final capstone project summarizing key experiences and takeaways.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment at an accredited college or university.
• Status as a rising junior, senior, recent graduate, or current graduate student in journalism, communications, or a related field.
• Experience working for a college news outlet; prior professional internship experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of digital media platforms and audience engagement strategies.
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to journalistic ethics.
• Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.
• Willingness to learn new tools, formats, and reporting techniques.
• Curiosity and interest in sports, culture, and community impact.
• Commitment to contributing to an inclusive and collaborative newsroom.

Location & details#

• This internship is based on-site in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
• The term is for Summer 2026.
