About the role#
This is a hands-on position within the social team at The Dispatch. You will publish content to real accounts with an active audience, participate in editorial workflows, and attend weekly editorial calls. This role requires the ability to recognize news moments and act on them quickly.
What you'll do#
- Publish daily across X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit, including newsletters, podcasts, and videos.
- Create platform-native content by adapting stories for different audiences rather than cross-posting.
- Review and cut clips from podcast and video episodes.
- Manage community engagement by monitoring comments, DMs, and replies, and building a presence in relevant Reddit communities.
- Report weekly on platform metrics to identify successful content and trends.
- Propose three to five new format or content ideas each week.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or a recent graduate.
- At least one year of experience managing social media accounts for a club, campus publication, campaign, small business, or previous internship.
- Fluency in platform-specific behaviors and a strong understanding of what content performs well on different channels.
- Basic proficiency with graphic design or video editing tools.
- A genuine interest in politics and policy, with the ability to identify significant news stories.
- Majors in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or Marketing are preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, part-time, remote internship.
- The term runs from approximately September 8, 2026, through December 18, 2026.
- Commitment is 15 to 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
- While the role is remote, interns are welcome to work from the office in Washington, D.C., if they are in the area.
