About the role#
The Davey Tree Expert Company is hiring an Arborist Trainee for a summer internship in Kansas City, Missouri. This is a full-time, paid position designed for students interested in the green industry. You will work 40 to 50 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays.
What you'll do#
You will work in the field alongside experienced arborists, climbers, and landscape professionals. Your daily tasks include:
- Maintaining tree and landscape health through pruning, cabling, bracing, and removal.
- Performing tree and landscape installations.
- Operating equipment such as chainsaws and chippers safely.
- Managing plant health through deep root fertilization, soil care, and pest management.
- Learning business operations, including client service, sales, and leadership fundamentals.
What you'll need#
We are looking for students currently studying Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry, or a related field. You should have a positive attitude, a love for the outdoors, and a willingness to learn. Additional requirements include:
- A valid driver's license (a commercial driver's license is a plus).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- A proven ability to be punctual and report to work regularly.
- Genuine enthusiasm for proper plant care.
Location & details#
This is an on-site internship based in Kansas City, Missouri, scheduled for the summer of 2027. All necessary climbing gear, uniforms, and personal protective equipment are provided.
