About the role#
The Medical Assistant Externship Coordinator bridges the gap between academic preparation and real-world healthcare practice. This role focuses on building partnerships with externship sites, managing student placements, and ensuring that clinical experiences meet industry standards. You will work closely with internal teams and external healthcare partners to support student career transitions and program success.
What you'll do#
- Establish and maintain a network of externship opportunities for Medical Assistant students.
- Ensure academic learning is integrated with practical application in clinical settings.
- Conduct regular site visits to evaluate student performance and strengthen partner relationships.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students regarding professionalism, attendance, and performance expectations.
- Collaborate with Career Services and Placement teams to support extern-to-hire conversion goals.
- Facilitate externship orientations and assist students with resume writing and interview preparation.
- Manage documentation including timecards, evaluations, and affiliation agreements.
- Promote the externship program through outreach initiatives within the medical community.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation regulations.
What you'll need#
- Minimum of 3+ years of practical experience in the medical assisting field.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential.
- Strong foundation in clinical practices.
- Passion for mentoring and supporting student success.
- CPR certification is preferred.
