About the role#
The Food Service Intern helps with both the daily operations and the business side of our kitchen. You will learn how to plan, order, and manage inventory while preparing large batch meals. This role involves collaboration with various departments to execute special events like holiday buffets and parent gatherings. You will also complete a special project during the semester to apply your classroom knowledge to our kitchen functions.
What you'll do#
- Plan and cook large batch meals for daily operations.
- Assist with purchasing, ordering, and maintaining food inventories.
- Prepare menus that meet food program requirements and daily schedules.
- Ensure proper food storage, sanitation, and rotation in pantries and freezers.
- Manage job functions within set financial limits.
- Keep sharp utensils secure and locked at all times.
- Work with staff and interdisciplinary teams on special functions.
- Handle clerical tasks, including organizing documentation and balancing inventories.
- Use Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record systems to complete reports.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Culinary Arts program.
- Some experience working in a kitchen is preferred.
