About the role#
The Modeling and Visualization Engineer Co-Op will gain hands-on experience working with an enterprise data warehouse during a transition from Snowflake to Databricks. This role focuses on building actionable metrics and reporting within a modern Databricks environment, supported by mentorship from senior Data Engineers and IT Business Analysts.
What you'll do#
- Determine the optimal use of DirectQuery or Import mode for table ingestion in Power Query.
- Collaborate with Agile teams to develop new enterprise reporting and participate in team ceremonies.
- Improve SQL generated for Databricks within Power BI Desktop.
- Research and test new methods to improve the efficiency of reporting development and validation.
- Assist in the day-to-day administration of analytics and AI platforms, including Databricks, Snowflake, and Power BI Service.
- Document model schemas, API integrations, and AI governance standards.
- Monitor platform health, data refreshes, and workloads while troubleshooting performance issues.
- Manage user access, roles, and permissions in accordance with security standards.
- Create and maintain support documentation, operational guides, and standard operating procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current graduate student in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Foundational programming skills with the ability to write and understand moderately complex SQL.
- Experience in Power BI creating semantic models that reference a data warehouse.
- Familiarity with AI concepts through coursework or personal projects.
- Strong interest in cloud technologies, SaaS platforms, and system operations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a high degree of technical curiosity.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new tools and communicate technical learnings clearly.
