About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will take ownership of your projects and contribute to the development of tunneling technology. You will work on systems ranging from boring machine parts and tunnel infrastructure to passenger vehicles. This role requires a commitment to seeing projects through from initial concept to final implementation.
What you'll do#
- Design and support sub-systems for boring machines, tunnel segment production, and construction equipment.
- Use hand calculations, FEA, and CAD to develop and communicate your designs.
- Manage project schedules and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery.
- Evaluate how your designs fit into the broader operational picture.
- Ensure all systems meet safety and regulatory standards, including MSHA, OSHA, NEC, and NFPA requirements.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience designing with SolidWorks.
- Hands-on experience with hardware fabrication, assembly, or testing.
- Proficiency in machine design, mechatronics, and fluid power systems.
- Knowledge of material selection, dynamics, and common machining processes.
- Ability to create manufacturing drawings.
- Strong teamwork skills and attention to detail.
- Previous internship experience or participation in the Not-a-Boring-Competition is a plus.
