Engineering Internships - Fall 2026

About the role#

Engineering Interns at The Boring Company are expected to take ownership of their projects and contribute directly to the goal of revolutionizing transportation. You will work alongside full-time staff on critical systems, ranging from tunnel boring machine parts to underground transportation infrastructure.

What you'll do#

• Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical instrumentation for tunnels and tunnel boring machines.
• Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare civil engineering details, design plans, reports, and meeting exhibits.
• Design and conduct experiments to optimize the tunneling process and improve machine reliability.
• Design or support the design of systems related to operations, including boring machine parts and tunnel infrastructure.
• Track and report on daily activities in the tunnel and at the launch site.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Prior experience in mechanical, software, electrical, or construction projects, whether through industry work or school.
• Proficiency or experience with CAD, Solidworks, PLCs, digital electronics, web technologies, or software applications.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.
• Acute attention to detail.
