About the role#
Engineering interns at The Boring Company take on significant responsibility. We expect you to own your projects just like a regular employee. You will work on teams dedicated to building underground transportation systems and tunnel boring machines. This is a full-time, paid internship for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Design systems and sub-systems for tunnel boring machine parts, support equipment, and tunnel infrastructure.
- Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical instrumentation in tunnels and on machines.
- Build automation and application software to operate, analyze, and control tunnel boring machines.
- Develop tools for collecting, analyzing, and displaying data for the Las Vegas Loop.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare design plans, reports, and civil engineering details.
- Design and conduct experiments to optimize tunneling processes and machine reliability.
- Review designs to provide feedback on manufacturability, performance, and simplicity.
- Identify critical project paths and drive development on those items.
- Track daily activities in the tunnel and at launch sites.
- Assist with site surveying and determining conditions for in-ground infrastructure.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program for Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering.
- Prior experience with mechanical, software, electrical, or construction projects from school or industry.
- Proficiency with tools such as CAD, Solidworks, PLCs, digital electronics, or web technologies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across different engineering disciplines.
- Acute attention to detail.
- Previous internship experience or participation in the Not-a-Boring-Competition is a plus.
