About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Co-op Systems Engineering position for the Winter 2027 term. You will join the Engineering Delivery team at the Vancouver shipyard to support Systems Engineering and Commissioning tasks. This role involves both office work and field inspections, requiring you to work on-site in North Vancouver. Please note that this position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret level, as well as a positive Controlled Goods assessment.
What you'll do#
- Provide Shipyard Systems and Installation Engineering support for assigned projects.
- Solve design issues and address proposed baseline changes that arise during production and commissioning.
- Support installation, STW (Setting to Work), HAT (Harbour Acceptance Trials), SAT (Sea Acceptance Trials), and inspections.
- Create high-level conceptual designs and scalable solutions for ship design changes.
- Assist in risk management and risk mitigation strategies.
- Support the verification and validation of electronic systems.
- Collaborate with the Ottawa project team, suppliers, and customers to define solutions and manage system requirements.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Biomedical Engineering program, specifically in your 3rd year of study.
- Experience with the Systems Engineering Life Cycle.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for documentation and customer interaction.
- Willingness to work on-site in a shipyard environment, including performing inspections and field work.
- Involvement in previous design projects related to electronic or mechanical systems.
