About the role#
The Texas Farm Bureau State Legislative Office in Austin offers an internship for the 2027 Regular Session of the Texas Legislature. This position provides experience with the legislative process, including policy analysis, legal research, and advocacy. You will work with the Government Affairs team to support initiatives that impact Texas agriculture and rural communities.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal and policy research on proposed legislation, regulatory matters, and issues affecting agriculture.
- Review, analyze, and track legislation throughout the legislative process.
- Prepare bill summaries, policy analyses, and briefing materials for staff and leadership.
- Draft legislative correspondence, member communications, and content for the weekly Austin Newsletter.
- Attend and monitor committee hearings, legislative meetings, and Capitol proceedings.
- Assist in the development of legislative strategy by preparing testimony and advocacy materials.
- Draft legislative amendments, bill language, and memoranda under supervision.
- Collaborate with legislators, legislative staff, and industry stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 2L or 3L law student.
- Availability to be in Austin, Texas, from January 12, 2027, to May 31, 2027.
- Interest in public policy issues such as property rights, environmental regulations, water policy, and agricultural law.
- Knowledge of production agriculture and rural issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize time-sensitive tasks.
- Excellent punctuality and attendance.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new responsibilities.
