About the role#
The Texas Farm Bureau is seeking a Legislative Legal Intern to support the State Legislative Office in Austin during the 2027 Regular Session of the Texas Legislature. This role offers experience in the legislative process through legal research, policy analysis, and advocacy work aimed at advancing Texas agriculture and rural communities.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal and policy research on proposed legislation, regulatory matters, and issues affecting agriculture.
- Review, analyze, and track legislation throughout the legislative process.
- Prepare bill summaries, policy analyses, and briefing materials for staff and leadership.
- Draft legislative correspondence, member communications, and content for the weekly Austin Newsletter.
- Attend and monitor committee hearings, legislative meetings, and Capitol proceedings.
- Assist in developing legislative strategy by preparing testimony and presentations.
- Draft legislative amendments, bill language, and memoranda under the supervision of the Government Affairs team.
- Collaborate with legislators, legislative staff, and stakeholders on issues impacting Texas agriculture.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 2L or 3L law student.
- Availability to be in Austin, Texas from January 12, 2027, through May 31, 2027.
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time-sensitive tasks.
- Interest in public policy, including property rights, water policy, environmental regulations, and agricultural law.
- Knowledge of production agriculture and rural issues.
- Excellent punctuality and attendance.
