About the role#
The Texas Farm Bureau is hiring a Legislative Legal Intern for the 2027 Regular Session of the Texas Legislature. This role supports the Government Affairs team in Austin. You will gain experience in the legislative process, policy analysis, and advocacy while working on issues that affect Texas agriculture and rural communities.
What you'll do#
- Research legal and policy matters related to proposed legislation and regulations.
- Track legislation and review bills throughout the session.
- Write bill summaries, policy analyses, and briefing materials for staff and leadership.
- Draft legislative correspondence, member communications, and newsletter content.
- Attend and monitor committee hearings and Capitol proceedings.
- Prepare testimony, presentations, and advocacy materials.
- Draft legislative amendments, memoranda, and bill language under supervision.
- Work with legislators, staff, and industry stakeholders on agricultural issues.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 2L or 3L law student.
- Ability to work on-site in Austin, Texas from January 12, 2027, to May 31, 2027.
- Knowledge of production agriculture and rural issues.
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Punctuality and the ability to handle time-sensitive tasks.
- Interest in public policy, including water policy, property rights, environmental regulations, and agricultural law.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 12, 2027 to May 31, 2027).
- This is an unpaid, full-time position.
- Physical requirements include occasional lifting up to 30 lbs and extended periods of sitting. Work may involve irregular hours and travel.
