About the role#
As a Mechanical Test Engineering Intern, you will work on the hardware testing of systems like Megapacks and Superchargers. You will own end-to-end functionality and performance testing for mechanical subsystems, ensuring designs are ready for integration. Your work will directly influence product design and system-level validation.
What you'll do#
- Create design verification test plans, protocols, and acceptance criteria based on system requirements.
- Conduct hands-on testing, monitor performance, collect data, and lead root cause analysis for mechanical component failures.
- Write test reports, track issues, maintain traceability, and share findings with stakeholders.
- Participate in design reviews and DFMEA processes to improve test methods.
- Work with Architecture, Systems, Design, and Project Management teams.
- Maintain lab safety, with a focus on high voltage, high-power, and energy storage environments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering degree or a related field.
- Knowledge of mechanical design, thermal management, materials behavior, and failure mechanisms in power systems.
- Experience with test setup and instrumentation like thermocouples, accelerometers, power analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Proficiency in data acquisition tools such as LabVIEW or NI hardware.
- Skills in data analysis using Python or MATLAB.
- Ability to write clear technical reports and execute test plans from product requirements.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively in a cross-functional team.

- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Terms: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Minimum of 12 weeks.
- Compensation: Paid internship.
