About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering intern, you will design and deploy specialized equipment for battery products. You will work across cross-functional teams, including CAE, manufacturing, and testing, to develop lithium-ion cell components from concept through production. This role involves hands-on engineering and research to improve cell design and production efficiency.
What you'll do#
- Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, mechanical BOMs, and parts lists.
- Author technical specifications and documentation.
- Perform engineering analyses using FEA, Excel, MATLAB, or scripting.
- Support mechanical builds, proof of principle assemblies, and production machinery.
- Lead experiments to advance knowledge of cell design principles and failure modes.
- Collaborate with teams to troubleshoot and improve mechanical designs.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with a preference for SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, or 3DX.
- Experience with machining, rolling, welding, additive manufacturing, molding, or extrusions.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, CFD, structural FEA, or statistical analysis tools like JMP and Minitab.
- Familiarity with machine design standards and safety practices such as ANSI, NFPA, LOTO, and OSHA.
- Understanding of lithium-ion battery cell design and test setup.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and technical communication skills.

- Term: Winter 2027 or Summer 2027.
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Duration: Minimum of 12 weeks.
