About the role#
The Vehicle Motion Controls team designs and implements the software and algorithms that define how our vehicles move. You will apply physics-based analysis and control techniques to systems including steering, braking, suspension, and powertrain. You will work across teams like Chassis Hardware, Firmware, and Systems Integration to develop features that improve vehicle stability and performance.
What you'll do#
- Build control-oriented models of chassis systems for estimation and analysis.
- Collaborate with Vehicle Dynamics Engineers to align sensing and actuation designs with vehicle performance goals.
- Write and implement control algorithms to increase system flexibility and capability.
- Create estimation and monitoring algorithms to improve safety and reliability.
- Partner with Firmware and Integration Engineers to debug and calibrate algorithms in simulation and on the vehicle.
- Validate algorithm performance and stability using SIL and HIL tools, proving grounds, and fleet data.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Graduation date between May 2027 and May 2028.
- Background in first principles linear systems analysis, control design, and state-estimation.
- Fundamental knowledge of vehicle dynamics and the physics behind electric drivetrains and chassis actuators.
- Proficiency with Matlab, Simulink, and Python.
- Basic experience with C or C++ software development.
- Real-world experience with vehicle dynamics performance is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week), on-site.
