About the role#
This internship focuses on the software infrastructure for Tesla Supercharger systems. You will work within the Energy Engineering department to build testing tools for central embedded software. The role involves validating state machine management, power allocation algorithms, and billing processes. You will work on-site in Palo Alto, California, for a full-time term starting in Winter 2027.
What you'll do#
- Build infrastructure and scripts to validate performance-critical and thread-safe code.
- Work alongside low-level embedded firmware developers.
- Develop tools to test Supercharger central embedded software.
- Validate telemetry, over-the-air software updates, and diagnostic interfaces.
- Use Python as a primary language, with C++, Docker, Bash, and CMake for supporting tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science or related degree program.
- Strong proficiency in C++.
- Experience writing multi-threaded and multi-process applications.
- Experience with networked applications, specifically TCP/IP and sockets.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work in a collaborative environment.
- Familiarity with protobuf/gRPC, Linux systems, Docker, and HiL or SiL testing is preferred.

- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week) for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Term: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, and potentially Summer 2027.
- Compensation: Paid internship with benefits.
