About the role#
As a Solar Hardware Engineering intern, you will join the Electrical and Optical Design team. This group designs the core PV cells and modules for our solar products. You will help advance energy modeling by incorporating factors for soiling and loss, validating results against fleet and climate data, and identifying areas for product improvement.
What you'll do#
- Assess and implement climate factors to improve soiling prediction models.
- Analyze large fleet datasets to evaluate how well models perform.
- Identify root causes for gaps in model performance and prioritize necessary improvements.
- Model the impact of product improvements based on performance data.
- Work with the team on field testing and data collection for product improvements.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in coding, particularly Python, and numerical modeling.
- Experience with data analysis, visualizing large datasets, and image processing.
- A solid understanding of fundamental physics related to solar cell operation, including light reflection, transmission, absorption, and scattering.
- Prior laboratory experience testing and characterizing solar panels.
- Basic knowledge of environmental monitoring and analysis.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Palo Alto, California.
- The position is on-site and full-time (40 hours per week).
