About the role#
As a Software Engineer Intern on the Reinforcement Learning Infrastructure team, you will build systems that make large-scale reinforcement learning fast, stable, and flexible. Your work supports teams developing Robotaxi and Optimus. You will focus on infrastructure that helps ML engineers move from prototype to large-scale experiments quickly.
What you'll do#
- Build infrastructure for large-scale reinforcement learning.
- Experiment with techniques that reduce convergence time or improve model quality.
- Improve the performance and scalability of RL workloads.
- Work with ML engineers to productionize new methods in the RL framework.
- Debug bottlenecks across runtimes, networking, and distributed systems.
- Improve system reliability, correctness, and engineering quality across the RL stack.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related degree program.
- Graduation date between May 2027 and December 2027.
- Strong programming skills in Python or C++.
- Experience with RL algorithms, techniques, and training frameworks.
- Familiarity with ML training frameworks, ideally PyTorch.
- A strong foundation in distributed systems and performance engineering.
- Experience profiling and optimizing CPU-GPU interactions, such as pipelining computation with data transfers.
- Ability to debug difficult problems and work with limited oversight.
- Practical experience or project exposure in RL training infrastructure.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: $100,000 to $150,000 plus benefits.
About Tesla
