About the role#
The Opticaster team focuses on optimizing battery charge and discharge cycles to maximize value for customers and the grid. This software powers products such as Megapacks, Powerwalls, and Virtual Power Plants. As an intern, you will build and maintain software systems for real-time energy management while working alongside experienced engineers to improve infrastructure scalability and grid stability.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain scalable software solutions for energy storage optimization.
- Ensure reliable performance of software in production environments.
- Design and implement features to improve customer experience and engagement.
- Build and enhance cloud-based tools to monitor the global fleet and analyze system performance.
- Contribute to simulation and testing frameworks to validate algorithm effectiveness.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks related to memory efficiency, computation, and infrastructure.
- Apply machine learning and data science techniques to improve decision-making and forecasting.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python and experience working in Linux environments.
- Experience with Git and software development.
- Familiarity with cloud computing and big data technologies like AWS, Spark, Airflow, or Kubernetes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in deploying code to production environments.
- Passion for renewable energy and energy storage.
- Prior experience in renewable energy, energy storage, machine learning, time series forecasting, or optimization is preferred.

- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 or Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Duration: Minimum 12 weeks.
