About the role#
As a Software Engineer Intern within the Energy Engineering team, you will contribute to the development and integration of industrial firmware for Tesla Energy products. You will work on software and firmware that supports the networking and middleware required for reliable, secure, and scalable energy solutions. This role involves hands-on work with hardware and requires collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines to support the deployment of energy products.
What you'll do#
- Write, improve, and debug software and firmware using Python, C, C++, and Rust.
- Integrate firmware with hardware for current and future energy products.
- Create test procedures for high voltage power electronics, battery modules, and thermal systems.
- Develop and debug system-level features for production release.
- Contribute to software architecture design and integrate applications into manufacturing processes.
- Manage project status and communicate risks to the organization.
- Perform hardware bring-up and troubleshoot technical issues.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Practical experience with electrical and software engineering components.
- Understanding of how software and electrical systems interact.
- Ability to deliver high-quality Python software.
- Familiarity with JSON, Protobuf, REST, HTTP/S, Ethernet, and CAN.
- Knowledge of basic electrical concepts and firmware validation.
- Experience with Continuous Integration workflows, including unit testing and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to own assignments, remain proactive, and communicate effectively within a team.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Compensation: $20.00 - $50.00 per hour plus benefits.
