About the role#
Join a small team of engineers building one of the largest device telemetry data platforms at Tesla. This platform powers our vehicles, Optimus, energy products, Autopilot, and manufacturing operations. You will own and evolve big data platform services at the intersection of storage, access, query, governance, and automation. Your work will help engineers across the company access and use data to improve product reliability and performance.
What you'll do#
- Build back-end systems from scratch capable of handling over a trillion events daily.
- Employ and improve scalable, distributed open-source technologies.
- Operate highly available distributed systems at scale.
- Help others deploy, operate, and extend your clean, tested code.
- Define a platform that is multi-tenant, self-serviced, and highly leveraged.
- Collaborate with data engineers and data scientists to drive efficient solutions.
- Help define the data story and enable data-driven solutions at Tesla.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Graduation date between 2027 and 2028.
- Proficiency in Java, Python, or Scala.
- Strong programming fundamentals, specifically in data structures, concurrency, and Java.
- Ability to relocate to Palo Alto, CA for the full duration of the internship.
- Experience with DevOps or SRE practices is a plus.
- Familiarity with distributed systems like Kafka, Spark, Trino, or ElasticSearch is a plus.
- Previous experience building and optimizing scalable back-end services is a plus.
