About the role#
Tesla is seeking software engineering students to join our Site Reliability Engineering team. You will work with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to plan, design, and manage key infrastructure components. This role involves working on projects that are critical to the team's success while gaining experience in a production environment.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand complex application architectures.
- Implement a top-down monitoring strategy to ensure holistic service visibility.
- Build, maintain, and monitor dashboards for critical infrastructure.
- Create and tune alerts for network and hardware to identify and remediate issues early.
- Manage project timelines and resolve support requests in a timely fashion.
- Create and maintain documentation, diagrams, and runbooks to facilitate knowledge sharing.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with a graduation date between 2027 and 2028.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, or Bash/shell.
- Solid Linux fundamentals and comfort working in a command-line environment.
- Ability to write clear, well-organized, and maintainable code.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Prometheus, and related observability tools like Grafana.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, or configuration management tools.
- Exposure to containers, cloud basics, networking, SLIs/SLOs, and incident response.
- A detail-oriented mindset and curiosity about how systems behave in production.

- Locations: Fremont, California; Palo Alto, California; Austin, Texas.
- Terms: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $40.00 - $58.00 per hour plus benefits.
- Requirements: Minimum of 12 weeks commitment. Applicants must be actively enrolled in an academic program.
