About the role#
The Optimus team is looking for an intern to help drive hardware development. As a Technical Program Manager, you will manage execution for hardware development, testing, and industrialization. You will serve as the central owner for specific hardware subsystem plans, working with global teams to ensure production demands are met and risks are resolved. This role requires a strong grasp of electromechanical actuator design, manufacturing, and assembly.
What you'll do#
- Create and manage design, build, and test plans for multiple hardware projects.
- Act as the central point of contact for hardware development and industrialization plans.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams across multiple continents to manage high-impact changes and project schedules.
- Track program metrics including cost, reliability, mass, and performance.
- Lead the development of design, testing, and validation timelines, DFMEAs, and DFMs.
- Manage prototype sourcing and logistics, including the shipment of test units.
- Collaborate with engineering owners on product updates and documentation.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Prior program management experience or experience leading a team, such as FSAE or Hyperloop.
- Proven ability to drive initiatives to completion.
- Strong technical communication skills and the ability to work with global interdisciplinary teams.
- Proactive, highly organized, and detail-oriented work style.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, JIRA, Confluence, and Git is desired.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in Palo Alto, California.
- The internship runs from Winter 2027 through Spring 2027.
- This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position requiring a minimum 12-week commitment.
- Applicants must be actively enrolled in an academic program.
