About the role#
The Energy Device Software team builds control and configuration software for residential energy products like Powerwall, Solar Inverter, and Wall Connector. These devices must run autonomously, respond to commands, and provide telemetry. You will help create tools that make installing renewable energy technology easier, faster, and cheaper.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers across disciplines to create designs and specifications.
- Contribute to overall system architecture.
- Develop modern applications for installation, configuration, and diagnosis.
- Work with other engineering teams to develop APIs.
- Provide technical leadership to improve developer productivity, product reliability, and system resiliency.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with application and systems languages such as C, C++, Rust, golang, Java, or C#.
- Familiarity with Internet and IoT protocols like HTTP, REST, websockets, gRPC, oauth, and Matter.
- Experience with embedded or Linux-based IoT environments and protocols including CAN, RS-485/UART, Ethernet, WiFi, and BLE.
- Experience with unit tests, software-in-the-loop tests, and test-driven development.
- Experience with web development, data analysis tools, or cryptography mechanisms like TLS.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a collaborative environment.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
