About the role#
The Service Engineering team provides real-time diagnostic support for the field, builds diagnostic tools, and connects field issues back to development teams. This internship focuses on technical system-level architecture and resolving issues that affect vehicles worldwide.
What you'll do#
- Identify root causes by analyzing vehicle logs, repair data, and failed parts.
- Develop service tools, including on-board diagnostic networks, to improve repair efficiency.
- Collaborate with development and quality teams on product improvement projects.
- Test software or mechanical changes on engineering vehicles.
- Support field technical teams with complex diagnostic escalations.
- Update the diagnostic knowledge base, service manuals, and service bulletins.
- Travel occasionally for hands-on testing and data collection in the field.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Electrical, Mechanical, Embedded Systems, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Understanding of electro-mechanical systems like sensors, actuators, and communication networks such as CAN bus.
- Hands-on experience with vehicle chassis systems.
- Proficiency in Python is preferred, and the ability to read JavaScript or C/C++ is a plus.
- Experience with Formula SAE or personal vehicle maintenance is a plus.
- Analytical mindset and a focus on problem-solving.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Term: Winter and Spring 2027, starting around January 2027 for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Compensation: $34.08 - $47.71 per hour plus benefits.
- Eligibility: This program is for students actively enrolled in an academic program.
