About the role#
This internship is part of the Terafab team, which is building a vertically integrated semiconductor factory. You will work on metal deposition processes for three chip families, including edge-inference processors, space-hardened chips for orbital satellites, and high-bandwidth memory. The role involves managing metal film properties like resistivity, adhesion, and stress to ensure device speed and reliability.
What you'll do#
- Develop and own metal deposition processes across three distinct chip families.
- Control resistivity, adhesion, and step coverage while managing electromigration and interface quality.
- Conduct process qualification and vendor demonstrations to develop ALD, CVD, and PVD processes.
- Characterize metal film properties such as conformality, grain structure, and adhesion.
- Evaluate novel materials like Ru and Co for local interconnects and backside power delivery network metallization.
- Qualify deposition tools from initial installation through production readiness.
- Use a physics-based approach to analyze processes and manipulate mechanisms.
- Perform root cause analysis and establish inline metrology and SPC control strategies.
- Support the development of next-generation metal materials.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with metal films technology and metrology methods.
- Strong skills in Design of Experiments and statistical analysis.
- Ability to work proactively with lithography, etch, thin films, integration, and equipment engineering teams.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Winter 2027 through Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site.
- Duration: Minimum of 12 weeks.
