About the role#
The Energy Engineering team is looking for an intern to work on power systems stability modeling and analysis. You will focus on the integration of renewable energy resources and contribute to projects critical to the team. This is a full-time, on-site internship.
What you'll do#
- Build RMS and EMT power systems models for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Model solar PV and battery energy storage systems using Python interfaces.
- Run simulations and perform system studies.
- Analyze how renewable energy resources impact the stability of grids and microgrids.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics degree program with a focus on Power and Energy Systems.
- Theoretical knowledge of EMT and dynamic modeling for power systems, renewable resources, and converter-interfaced devices.
- Hands-on experience with positive sequence tools such as PSSE, DIgSILENT, or PSLF.
- Experience with EMT tools like PSCAD or EMTP for dynamics and transient simulations.
- Practical skills using Python for simulation automation.
- Ability to be self-managed.
- Preferred: Experience with utility transmission interconnection studies for renewable and energy storage projects.
- Preferred: Experience with protection coordination, cable ampacity, transformer energization, and grounding studies.
- Preferred: Experience with ETAP, SKM software, or PSSE User Written Models.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Terms: Winter 2027 or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week) on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Compensation: $20.00 - $50.00 per hour plus benefits.
- Note: This program is for students currently enrolled in an academic program.
