About the role#
Tesla is looking for a firmware engineering intern to contribute to energy storage and vehicle charging products. You will work within the Energy Engineering department to develop safety-critical firmware for AC/DC and DC/DC power converters. This role involves collaboration with hardware, controls, and software teams to support the product lifecycle from development to fleet performance tracking.
What you'll do#
- Write C code for realtime embedded systems.
- Develop, debug, and optimize firmware performance.
- Create and execute board-level test plans to identify hardware and firmware faults.
- Translate and integrate control algorithms into firmware and validation frameworks.
- Perform hands-on hardware bring-up and qualification of power converters.
- Conduct lab work to support development and debugging activities.
- Analyze fleet performance data to resolve behavioral issues and implement firmware improvements.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in writing C code for realtime embedded environments.
- Solid understanding of electrical fundamentals.
- Experience with microcontroller peripherals including ADC, DAC, PWM, and Timers.
- Experience with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, CAN, and UART.
- Ability to read hardware schematics.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter, Spring, or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week), on-site, for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Compensation: Paid internship.
