    About the role#

Slate is looking for a hands-on Plant Vehicle Engineering Intern to support production ramp readiness and issue resolution at the Warsaw Assembly Plant. You will work on-site to help identify build issues, collect data, and document concerns related to low-voltage electrical systems, wiring harnesses, and software-enabled vehicle systems. This role bridges the gap between engineering and manufacturing, helping to protect product intent and improve first-time quality.

    What you'll do#

    • Support plant-floor triage for electrical systems, including harness routing, connector seating, grounds, power distribution, and module communication.
    • Inspect harness installation quality, such as clipping, bend radius, strain relief, and connector engagement.
    • Document electrical issues with photos, connector IDs, circuit information, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), and repair validation notes.
    • Assist with vehicle diagnostics, software version verification, and End-of-Line issue tracking.
    • Support engineers during module flashing, configuration-readiness checks, and diagnostic follow-up.
    • Analyze trends from repair records, build observations, and plant feedback to support containment and issue closure.
    • Participate in plant-floor reviews with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and manufacturing engineering.
    • Maintain issue trackers, breakpoint records, and documentation for lessons learned.
    • Support continuous improvement activities to reduce defects and strengthen production readiness.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Ability to start in January 2027 and work through the spring.
    • A basic understanding of electrical circuits, voltage, current, resistance, power, ground, fuses, relays, and wiring.
    • Strong documentation habits, including the ability to summarize test results and validation status clearly.
    • Ability to read or learn wiring diagrams, pinouts, schematics, and technical work instructions.
    • Interest in vehicle diagnostics, CAN/LIN communication, module flashing, and End-of-Line testing.
    • Comfortable working in a manufacturing plant environment and collaborating with engineers, technicians, and plant leadership.
    • Hands-on experience through projects, labs, robotics, vehicle diagnostic work, or previous internships is preferred.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site at the Warsaw, Indiana assembly plant.
    • The role requires regular engagement on the production floor, including standing and walking to support vehicle inspections and build observations.
    • This position does not offer sponsorship.
