About the role#
The Tesla SI Hardware team works on cooling systems for high-density data centers powered by our custom supercomputer, Dojo. As an intern, you will contribute to the design and validation of air and liquid cooling solutions. You will work on full system designs, including chip packages, compute trays, and rack infrastructure, while exploring new technologies to improve system efficiency.
What you'll do#
- Build CFD models to analyze heat transfer and fluid flow for SI hardware.
- Evaluate new cooling technologies like coldplates, heat spreaders, and thermal interface materials.
- Run thermal and mechanical simulations based on first principles.
- Test and validate electronic systems across all low-voltage electronics.
- Assist manufacturing lines and test engineers to identify issues and develop production solutions.
- Document your findings and create presentations to share design concepts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering or thermal-related degree program.
- An expected graduation date between May 2027 and December 2027.
- A firm grasp of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
- Experience with CFD and numerical modeling of thermal or fluid systems.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical or thermal testing and data analysis.
- Strong communication skills to present your work and collaborate with your team.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site internship based in Palo Alto, California.
- The term covers Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
